International Student Scientific Conference "Word in Language, Speech, Text"

On 17-18 May the VIII International Student Scientific Conference "Word in Language, Speech, Text" was held at the Faculty of Philology. It is significant that the conference was held on the eve of significant dates for the philological community: 24 May - the Day of Saint Cyril and Methodius, the Teachers of Slovenia, secularly known as the Day of Slavonic Script and Culture, and 25 May - the Day of the Philologist.

The conference opened the University Days of Slavonic Script, organised annually by the Department of General and Russian Linguistics. The programme of the conference consisted of eighty-two reports, whose topics were related to the multidimensional consideration of the word. The conference participants were undergraduates, masters and postgraduates from higher education institutions of Belarus (Brest, Minsk, Vitebsk, Gomel and Baranovichi), Russia (Nalchik, Taganrog), China (Dalian Polytechnic University), Bulgaria (Bishop Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen), Slovakia (Comenius University in Bratislava).

The plenary session included seven reports on the issues of peripheral and unofficial onomasticon (Alexandra Kacevich, BrSU, Brest; Elizaveta Feduro, P.M. Masherov State University, Vitebsk); proper names in Russian and Chinese spellings (Shen Jiacheng, F. Skorina State University, Gomel); the problem of formation of synonymic series with the dominant word "tuga" in the Belarusian language (Anna Popeka, BrSU, Brest);  the art of eloquence and techniques of oratory in the creative heritage of M. Zadornov (Maria Bochkareva, Engineering and Technology Academy of the South Federal University, Taganrog); the study of the lexicon representing the structure of a peasant house in the space of Russian folk tales (Ekaterina Berdnik, BrSU, Brest). The study of the semantics of the lexeme "bulba" in the ethnolinguistic aspect (Alina Knyrevich, BrSU, Brest).

The themes of the plenary reports were continued in the work of six sections of the conference. The problems of the sectional sessions allowed to cover different angles of the study of linguistic units: the word in the historical and cultural context, in the structure and semantics of the text, in the aspect of grammatical and methodological studies, in the translated fiction text, the word as a means of expressing linguistic personality, proper name in nominative and linguocultural aspects.

The student scientific conference gave young researchers the opportunity to test their scientific research in public, contributed to the expansion of their theoretical outlook and scientific erudition, convinced them of the need to constantly improve their knowledge and develop their creative abilities.
