Masterclasses and Tea Ceremony: How Confucius Institute celebrated International Chinese Language Day
On 20th April, the Confucius Institute celebrated the International Chinese Language Day. The guests and participants of the event were students of Chinese language courses at the Confucius Institute, students of partner schools - secondary school No. 28 of Brest, lyceum and secondary school No. 3 of Zhabinka.
The participants were welcomed by Fang Shengliang, Director of the Confucius Institute from the Chinese side, and Angela Evgenievna Saidi, Director of the Confucius Institute from the Belarusian side. Chinese painting and calligraphy became the thematic basis of the holiday. Yang Yang, a teacher of the Institute, told the participants of the event about the main elements of Chinese painting and their philosophical significance in Chinese culture.
Elena Grinevich, a teacher of Gymnasium No. 1 in Brest, introduced all the students to the peculiarities of Chinese rice paper, special mineral paints and brushes for painting, and revealed the secrets of painting successful pictures, which decorated the celebration of the International Chinese Language Day.
During the event, the results of the calligraphy contest were summarised, involving more than ninety participants. Eleven winners aged from eight to thirty-five received awards.
After the awarding everyone took part in master-classes on Chinese painting, calligraphy, cutting out of coloured paper, knitting Chinese knots of happiness, and also tasted different kinds of Chinese tea at the tea ceremony.
