The sports programme of the festival of foreign students has started at the Brest State A.S.Pushkin University

On February 19 in the sports complex of the Brest State A. S. Pushkin University took place the University Championship in armwrestling among foreign students. This event gave a start to the sports programme of the traditional for our university Festival of foreign students.

Despite the fact that armwrestling is a typical kind of martial sport, at the same time it is the most democratic and “peaceful” kind of martial arts. This competition gathered more than two dozen fans of this power sport and revealed the strongest armwrestlers from among foreign students of our university.

Diplomas and valuable prizes given by the university students' trade union committee were awarded:

• for the first place – Akhmedov Aziz, a 4^th year student of the Department of Philology;
• for the second place – Rajapov Halmyrat, a second-year student of the Department of Philology;
• for the third place – Amanmamedov Begench, a second-year student of the Department of Law.

Viktor Bratchenia – 16 times world champion and 14 times European champion in armwrestling, as well as the winner of a gold medal at the World Cup in Poland and two gold medals at the World Cup in Zagreb – acted as an invited guest at this competition. Now in his sporting career he has 62 awards, 37 of which are gold. He is the only athlete in the history of national sport who became world champion among Paralympians and healthy athletes. Viktor was pleased to give a master class with students on the basics of armwrestling techniques and showed some of the most dear to him medals won at the last World Championships.

In two weeks, all interested people will be waiting for new sports battles and competitions that can prove that exercise and sports are not only useful for health promotion, but also bring positive when your peers and friends are nearby.

• team games for international students;
• sportsland “Together we are a team” (among the national teams of international students living in halls of residence);
• chess and draughts tournament;
• a volleyball tournament for international students living in halls of residence;
• belt wrestling competitions;
• table tennis tournament;
• open university championship in mini-football;
• power triathlon “3 G”;
• darts tournament;
• fitness program “FitnessClass”;
• Brest State A. S. Pushkin University billiards championship.
