University open competition of dramas on the works of Belarusian writers
The new university open competition of dramas on the works of Belarusian writers was held on February 12, 2020 by the chair of Belarusian philology. The aim of the contest is to popularize the literary heritage of the native artists of the word and to develop creative abilities of the youth. The event was attended by nine theatre groups of schools in Brest. The contest has shown the interest of teachers and pupils in the national culture and artistic word.
Young theatres have demonstrated a high level of stage implementation of folklore and literary works. Spectators enjoyed the sound of the Belarusian word and the play of the new actors on stage. The range of the plays presented was quite wide: from the classic “Mikitin Lapot'” by Mikhail Cherot, “Pavlinka” by Yanka Kupala to the works by the modern Brest writer Igor Sidoruk, as well as amateur dramatist, teacher Vyacheslav Korbut. The competition programme included performances of the “Magic Snuffbox”, Puppet Theatre of the State Educational Establishment “Brest Secondary School No. 12 named after K. L. Gubarevich” (directors – Elena Vladislavovna Sokolyuk, Tamara Anatolievna Tevosyan), as well as theaters. In the year of celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory the stage interpretation of fragments of the book “The Unwomanly Face of War” by the Nobel laureate Svetlana Alexievich was received with interest. The spectators were pleasantly impressed by the production “I was. I am. I will be” by the works of V. Korotkevich, whose anniversary is celebrated this year. Staging works of Christian themes touched the souls of spectators. It is becoming a good tradition to hold an open university competition of plays on the works of Belarusian writers at the Department of Philology.
