University Oratorical Contest “Studying Eloquence 2020”
On February 27, 2020, another event from the program of the Festival of foreign students was held – the eighth university competition of public speaking skills “Learning eloquence”. As in previous years, it was organized by the Chair of General and Russian Linguistics.
The competition included 23 speakers representing the Departments of Philology, Law, Physics and Mathematics, Biology, Geography and Foreign Languages.
In the first round, the contestants presented performances on the theme “I would have learned Russian only for...”. There were exciting, emotional stories of students about Russian as a way of international, interstate communication; as one of the world languages; about the reasons for the choice of a speaker to study Russian language; about the achievements of Russian literature, art and science, about people, events, sightseeing and achievements of Belarus as the country of the language under study.
The finalists of the contest (there were 10 of them) carried out the tasks in the rapid response rhetoric mode. At first, the contestants expressively read an extract from “The Tale of Fisherman and Fish” by A. S. Pushkin, then improvised it to a musical composition.
As a result of an intense battle, the prizes were divided among them:
1st place: Agadovlet Tadjov, 2nd year student of the Department of Foreign Languages, and Zohre Annamovlamova, 3rd year student of the Department of Philology;
2nd place: Arslan Muhammetdurdiev, 3rd year student of the Department of Philology;
3rd place: Sheker Berekmyradova, Khaltach Rakhmanova, both are 2nd year students of the Department of Philology, and Sulgun Annaeva, 3rd year student of the Department of Philology.
The winner of the nomination “A worthy successor” (awarded by the Council of Elders from among experienced orator students) was Ykhlas Adykov, a 2nd year student of the Department of Philology; the nomination “For the will to the win” – Sherzat Kemalov, a 3rd year student of the Department of Philology.
Also for the high level of oral public speaking the organizing committee established special prizes, which were awarded to: Mihri Akmyradova, a 3rd year student of Fthe Department of Physics and Mathematics, and Akjemal Rovshenova, a 2nd year student of the Department of Philology.
Congratulations to the winners! We will meet at new rhetorical competitions!
