Live Butterflies Exhibition Continues in the Winter Garden

On February 23, 2013, a unique Exhibition of live butterflies opened in the Winter Garden at Brest State A.S. Pushkin University. It is the place where visitors can get carried away from hustle and bustle of a noisy city into an unusual atmosphere of a fairytale garden full of fantastic live butterflies among exotic plants. The exposition surprises from the very first moment and gives a feeling of brightness, lightness and warmness which everyone needs so badly after long winter days.

At the exhibition a number of the brightest and most unusual representatives of the insect world – exotic live butterflies from all over the world – can be observed: Swallowtail butterflies, Emperor butterflies, Owl butterflies, Oak Leaf butterflies, Morpho butterflies and Paper Kite Butterflies. Their habitat stretches from the Philippines up to South America. They strike you at first sight and while flying resemble flower petals of various colours which a light breeze is playing with. It also happens that having taken visitors for background objects butterflies sit right on their hands, thus giving an excellent opportunity to study them on all sides. All the perfection of both the wild life and our world is reflected in the pictures on their wings. 

One can also watch the process of feeding these wonderful creatures, and if one is lucky enough, to become a witness of one of the most fascinating events - the birth of a butterfly from a chrysalis. This event is obviously worth of witnessing as only a few are able to watch the birth of a butterfly in wild life.

Skilled guides will lift the curtain over the amazing world of butterflies, tell a lot of interesting facts and stories and even place some butterflies on your hand for you to feel the touch of marvelous wings.

So far the exhibition has been visited by more than 2 000 people among whom are both citizens and guests of the city of Brest. With the help of the guest book one can easily discover the mood in which the visitors leave the exhibition. Adults become overwhelmed with their childhood memories brought about by the beauty of nature, while children are delighted with their interaction with the fascinating creatures. Being gentle and charming creatures, butterflies evoke without any doubt admiration on the part of every visitor.

The exhibition “Live butterflies” in the Winter Garden is opened daily from 11.00 to 18.00 up to April 21, 2013. You are welcome!
