The faculty begins its history since 1957, when the specialty ‘Pedagogy and methods of primary education’ was formed at the faculty of language and literature. In 1969, the faculty of language and literature and the training of primary school teachers was divided into two independent faculties: philological and pedagogical. In connection with the opening of the specialty ‘Psychology’ at the pedagogical faculty in 1999, the faculty was renamed into psychological and pedagogical.

Currently, the faculty provides education in 3 specialties: primary education, psychology, practical psychology.
More than 40 teachers work at the departments of the faculty, including 1 Doctor of Philological Sciences, 1 Doctor of Pedagogic Sciences, 2 Professors, 4 Candidates of Pedagogic sciences, 4 Candidates of Philological Sciences, 7 Candidates of Psychological Sciences, 1 Candidate of Biological Sciences, 1 Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, 1 Candidate of Agricultural Sciences.
Faculty teachers participate in the development of research topics. All teachers of the faculty take part in organizing, managing and conducting research activities of students in various forms, both in academic and extra-curricular time. The main form of research activities of students during school time is the implementation of research in the framework of course and diploma projects. Great attention is paid to the formation of students' scientific competencies and skills in the methodology of scientific research. For participation in the Republican competition of scientific works of students of higher educational institutions of Belarus, the faculty annually presents the best diploma studies, which are assigned the highest categories.
At the moment, 13 student research associations are conducting research activities at the faculty: at the Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary Education - 8, at the Department of Psychology - 8. The topics of student research associations are quite variable, that provides an opportunity for students to be involved in research activities in various directions. Student scientific society works at the faculty. Students majoring in ‘Psychology’ are engaged in scientific and practical activities in student research laboratories. Students discuss the results of their work at scientific conferences and seminars. Days of Science are held annually at the faculty. The result of scientific discussions, presentations is a scientific conference, where students of all specialties of the faculty speak in various sections with reports on various scientific areas. The results of student research are published in a collection of articles.
