The history of Physical Education and Sports Faculty begins with the forming of the Department of Physical Education in 1969. In 1972, the first enrollment of students to the Faculty of Physical Education of Brest Pedagogical Pushkin Institute (now Educational Establishment ‘Brest State Pushkin University’) was held.
Since 2008, the training in the specialty of the 2nd stage of higher education (Master’s degree) 1-08 80 04 ‘Theory and methods of physical education, sports training, health-improving and adaptive physical culture’ has been opened. Since 2019 – ‘Physical culture and sports’.

Sports training is an essential component of training future specialists. The faculty has created good conditions for improving the skill of athletes: there is a sports complex, including specialized gyms and a swimming pool. More than 30 students of the faculty are currently members of the national teams of the Republic of Belarus in athletics, swimming, acrobatics, fencing, chess, archery, sambo, handball, etc. There are participants in world championships, Europe, and other major international competitions.
At the XXVIII Olympic Games in Athens (Greece), an undergraduate of the faculty (2001), Yulia Nesterenko became the Olympic champion in track and field in the 100-meter sprint.
The select team of the university in track and field is a two-time winner of the Republican Universiade.
The scientific activity of the faculty teachers is carried out in two areas - natural and humanitarian sciences. In the field of natural sciences, the main areas of activity are: the study of the characteristics of various functional systems in young people who have undergone chronic low-intensity radioactive irradiation, as well as the study of age-related changes in the functional state of the visceral systems of the body of children with scoliosis engaged in physiotherapy exercises. In the field of humanities, the main attention of researchers is aimed at improving the means and methods of organized forms of physical education of preschoolers, students and adults, as well as issues of optimizing the system of sports training in various sports. All teachers of the faculty are engaged in research work, 4 of them continue their dissertation research.
The faculty maintains scientific ties with Russian universities: Kolomna Pedagogical Institute, Krasnoyarsk University, Research Institute of Physiology; with universities in Poland, Ukraine. The Department of Sports Disciplines signed an agreement on scientific cooperation with the Department of Theoretical Foundations of Physical Education of Grodno State Kupala University. In recent years, the faculty has held an international scientific and practical conference ‘Man, health, physical culture in the XXI century’, regional conferences and annual interuniversity student conferences. The faculty members annually publish about 200 scientific papers, including: textbooks, teaching aids, monographs, teaching aids, recommendations, guidelines, articles, etc. About 35% of full-time students of the faculty annually participate in all forms of research work, make reports and are published in materials of international congresses, republican, regional, interuniversity, university, faculty scientific and practical and methodological conferences, exhibitions of scientific works. Every year, the best students' competitive works become laureates of republican scientific works competitions.
