Physics and Mathematics faculty is one of the oldest structural divisions of Brest State Pushkin University. Physics and Mathematics Department was opened as part of the teacher's institute in Brest by the resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the BSSR No. 801 of 6 June 1945. In accordance with the order of the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 15414-r dated 23 September 1950, the Council of Ministers of the Belorussian SSR decided to open from 1 November 1950 Pedagogical Institute on the basis of Brest Teachers' Institute, consisting of faculties: language and literature, physics and mathematics and natural science.

FACULTY TODAY

At the beginning of the 1995-1996 academic year, Brest State Pedagogical Institute was transformed into Brest State University. This led to the reorganization of faculties. In particular, on the basis of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, by order of the rector No. 798-ks dated 9/29/1995, two faculties were formed: mathematics and physics.

On 1 February 2013, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics was formed in connection with the merger of Physics and Mathematics Faculties.

Today, 500 students of the first and the second stages of higher education study at Physics and Mathematics faculty.

The organization of the faculty management and coordination of its activities is carried out by: the dean's office (dean, deputy dean for academic work, deputy dean for scientific work, deputy dean for educational work); Faculty Council; methodical commission of the faculty; department of the faculty). In total, the faculty employs 36 full-time teachers and 18 teaching support staff. Of these, 2 Professors, 2 Doctors of physical and mathematical Sciences, 22 Associate Professors, Candidates of Sciences.

The faculty has 14 classrooms, 11 computer classes, 9 training laboratories.

Faculty graduates successfully work not only in educational institutions, but also in law enforcement agencies, customs, banks, state industrial enterprises and private business.

There is a cooperation agreement with the institution ‘Administration of the Park of High Technologies’. On the bases of the residents of this institution of the famous foreign companies ‘EPAM systems’ and ‘Epol Soft’ students undergo practical training.

The faculty maintains close scientific ties with Stepanov Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and with the laboratory of magnetic materials of the Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences for Materials Science.

Along with scientific and educational activities, students actively participate in the social, cultural and sports life of the faculty and the university as a whole, having the opportunity to contribute their ideas through the Student Council to the organization of the educational process and cultural leisure. Theatrical shows dedicated to various holidays are a good tradition. To help the curators, senior students are assigned to help freshmen adapt. The faculty team participates in the traditional games of the ‘KVN’ student league. The honor of the faculty at various competitions is defended by the national teams in basketball, football, weight lifting and other sports.

Every year from three to five graduates of the faculty enter the postgraduate studies of the leading universities and scientific institutions of the republic, including Belarusian State University, Institute of Physics of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Institute of Solid State Physics and Semiconductors of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
