Culinary battle “Up the sleeve”

On February 20 as part of the events dedicated to the Festival of foreign students, on the basis of the hall of residence № 1 (Lenin St., 68) was held a culinary battle “Up the sleeve” between the teams of the departments of history, biology, geography and philology. The event of a competitive format was held with the aim of multicultural education, promoting the idea of healthy eating in the student community and aimed at uniting the team.

Turkmen cuisine is a continuation of the glorious history of the huge country. The main products of Turkmens from ancient times were meat and milk, which was promoted by the nomadic way of life of the people and spread of cattle breeding. Time passed, the diet became much richer, but Turkmens still cook their favourite dishes from meat, flour and dairy products.

Our foreign students were to introduce the Belarusian youth to the delicacies of national cuisine. According to the terms of the contest, the teams were given a certain amount of time to prepare several dishes, prepare and set the table and make a story-presentation.

The walls of the hostel were overnight filled with funny laughter and wonderful aromas! Girls and boys in a single impulse cashed quickly, skilfully and with great excitement. But the most important thing was ahead of everyone! Eastern nations are famous for their hospitality, and the shocked Belarusian students did not know what dishes to take and which department to approach for tasting. Pilaf, dogramas, manty, pishme biscuits, freshly baked churek and other wonderful dishes were presented on the tables of Turkmens, aragan was cooked.

Thanks to the friendly atmosphere, fun and laughter, the competitive spirit instantly disappeared, and the main thing was to communicate and talk to each other. This situation put the judges at a dead end: how can one choose a winner? After a quick discussion, the jury agreed unanimously that there were no losers in the culinary battle. All teams received prizes and worthy nominations, and the dishes prepared by the participants were immediately “destroyed”.

The competition received a deep response in the student community, so the faculties decided to hold another culinary battle between foreign students and Belarusian students of our university as part of the Student Spring.
