Short biography

She was born in the city of Brest. In 2009, she graduated with honours from the State Educational Institution ‘Lyceum № 1 named after A.S. Pushkin in Brest’.

In 2014 she graduated with honours from the Faculty of Biology of Brest State A.S. Pushkin University with a degree in Bioecology with the qualification ‘Biologist-ecologist. Teacher of biology and ecology’. Theme of the diploma work ‘Efficiency of the biological wastewater treatment system at the sewage treatment plants of Brest’.

For excellent academic achievements and active participation in the life of the faculty and the university she was awarded the personal scholarship of M. Bogdanovich (2011-2012, 2012-2013, Republic of Belarus) and the scholarship of the non-governmental environmental fund named after V.I. Vernadsky for students (2013, Russian Federation). During 2013-2014, she had an internship at Vilnius University (Republic of Lithuania) within the framework of the MID project of the Erasmus Mundus programme.

In 2016 she graduated from the Master's programme of BrSU, specialising in Biology, with the degree of Master of Biological Sciences. The topic of her master's thesis is ‘Treatment of wastewater from phosphorus compounds by biotechnological method’. In 2016 she took part in the XXIII Republican competition of scientific works of students and was awarded a diploma of II category.

In 2019 she graduated from the postgraduate course at the Institute of Nature Management of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, speciality 25.03.13 - Geoecology, geographical sciences with the qualification ‘Researcher’ in the field of geographical sciences.

During the period of postgraduate studies she was the holder of the grant for the performance of research works by doctoral students, postgraduates and applicants of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2018-2019). For her academic achievements she was awarded the scholarship of the President of the Republic of Belarus for postgraduate students (2019) and the scholarship of the V.I. Vernadsky Non-Governmental Environmental Fund for postgraduate students (2018-2019, Russian Federation).

On 16 March 2023 at the Dissertation Defence Council K 01.23.01 at the Institute of Nature Management of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus she successfully defended her dissertation ‘Geoecological assessment of the suitability of urban sewage sludge for various uses (on the example of Brest region)’ for the degree of Candidate of Geographical Sciences (the decision of the Council was approved by the Higher Attestation Commission of Belarus on 17.05.2023, protocol No. 10).

Since 30 August 2024 she has been working as Vice-Rector for Ideological and Educational Work at Brest State A.S. Pushkin University.

Scientific activity

Basalay E.N. is the author of 74 scientific publications, 7 publications in mass media (newspapers ‘Vecherniy Brest’, ‘Navuka’, ‘Znamya Yunosti’, magazine ‘Green Container’), 5 TV appearances and 1 radio appearance; the results of research are confirmed by seven acts of implementation. Basalay E.N. - is a laureate of the scholarship of the President of the Republic of Belarus to talented young scientists (2024). Basalay E.N. is the head of successfully completed economic and contractual research works and projects of BRFFI Nauka-M (2018-2020 and 2021-2023), as well as a participant of republican and international events, among which:

1. scientific and educational expedition ‘Arctic Floating University-2021’ organised by the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of Higher Education ‘Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov’ (SAFU named after M.V. Lomonosov), Arkhangelsk, Russian Federation (2021);

2. international expedition project ‘Kamchatka: North-West Ring of Fire’, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russian Federation (2022);

3. republican youth project ‘100 Ideas for Belarus’, Minsk, Republic of Belarus (2023);

4. international forum of young inventors and innovators ‘Technology, Protection and Development’, Velikiy Novgorod, Russian Federation (2023);

5. ΧΧΙ international ecological action ‘Save and Preserve’ within the framework of the ΙΙΙ Open meeting of eco- and zoo-volunteers, expert, Nizhnevartovsk, Russian Federation (2024).
